Creating and Using a Prayer Board: A Simple Way to Keep Prayer Intentional 🙏

A prayer board is a beautiful and practical way to keep your prayers visible, organized, and meaningful. Instead of letting prayer requests slip your mind, a prayer board gives you a dedicated space to remember who and what you are praying for each day. Whether it’s for personal devotion, family prayer time, or even a creative faith project, a prayer board can help deepen your prayer life and keep your focus on God.

What Is a Prayer Board?

A prayer board is a visual space where you place prayer requests, scripture verses, and reminders of people or situations you want to pray about. It can be as simple as a corkboard with sticky notes or as decorative as a framed board with photos, clothespins, and scripture cards.

Many people include:

  • Prayer requests for family and friends
  • Photos of loved ones
  • Scripture verses
  • Encouragement quotes
  • Praise reports (answered prayers)

Having these reminders visible helps turn prayer from something you intend to do into something you actually do daily.

Why a Prayer Board Is So Powerful

A prayer board does more than hold notes—it helps build consistency and faith.

1. It keeps prayer intentional – When you see requests every day, you’re reminded to pray for them.

2. It helps you remember people – Life gets busy. A prayer board keeps the needs of others front and center.

3. It shows how God answers prayers – When prayers are answered, you can move them to an “Answered Prayer” section. Watching that section grow is incredibly encouraging.

4. It becomes a visual testimony – Over time, your board becomes a record of God’s faithfulness.

How to Create Your Own Prayer Board

Creating a prayer board is easy and inexpensive. You can customize it to match your home, style, or devotional space.

Supplies You May Need

Simple Steps

  1. Choose your board
A corkboard, picture frame with string, or even a clipboard wall can work.
  2. Divide the board into sections
Many people use sections such as:
    • Current Prayers
    • Family
    • Friends
    • Finances
    • Marriage
    • World/Leaders
    • Answered Prayers
  3. Add prayer envelopes, cards or sticky notes. I created boxes using my laser cutter so it would be easier to slide the index cards in and out.
Write down specific prayer requests so you can pray intentionally.
  4. Include scripture
Add verses that strengthen your faith and remind you of God’s promises.
  5. Update it regularly
Move prayers to an “answered” section when God answers them.

How to Use Your Prayer Board Daily

A prayer board works best when it becomes part of your routine. Start your day with it.

Spend a few minutes each morning praying through the requests on the board.

Pray through sections every day and add new requests each day as needed.

Instead of praying for everything at once, choose a section each day. My husband and I take a topic each day, look over what we have and add to it or move answered prayers box as they are answered.

Example:

  • Sunday – Gratitude and answered prayers
  • Monday – Marriage
  • Tuesday – Family and friends
  • Wednesday – Finances
  • Thursday – Leaders and country
  • Friday – Sick and hurting
  • Saturday – Personal needs for ourselves

Whenever someone asks for prayer, write it down right away.

Making Your Prayer Board Meaningful

Your prayer board should reflect your faith and your heart.

Consider adding:

  • Favorite Bible verses
  • Photos of missionaries or ministries
  • Encouraging quotes
  • Gratitude notes
  • Testimonies of answered prayer

Over time, it becomes more than a craft—it becomes a place of worship, reflection, and faith.

Final Thoughts

A prayer board is a simple but powerful tool that helps turn prayer into a daily habit. By keeping prayer requests visible, you are constantly reminded to bring people and situations before God.

More importantly, it allows you to see how God moves and answers prayers over time.

Prayer doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes all it takes is a quiet moment, a few written reminders, and a heart willing to talk to God.
